Taping Therapy is a common skill used by Physiotherapists to reduce the likelihood of injuries such as ankle sprains, help allow optimal recovery by offloading soft tissue structures and to enhance performance. Taping can effectively manage common injuries and conditions including plantar fasciitis, patellofemoral pain syndrome, patella fat pad impingement, lateral ankle sprains, sciatica, and overuse conditions.
Taping can reduce pain and stress on injured tissues and swelling, as well as provide biomechanical correction for normal movement, increase stability, and enhance proprioception (sense of joint position).
The benefits of Taping Therapy include:
Relief of both acute and chronic pain
Reduction of inflammation, swelling, edema
Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage
Reduced fatigue in overused muscles
Prevention/relief of cramps or spasms
Supports without restricting range of motion
Prolongs and enhances the benefit of other therapeutic modalities
Prevents overstretching or over contraction of injured muscles
Restores strength to weak or injured muscles
Improves mobility/flexibility in injured areas
Enhances muscle tone in weak/poorly toned muscles
Provides therapeutic benefits 24/7 the entire time it’s worn
